Since I have been in the Graphic Design Industry for the last 23 years, I have concluded that this field is closely dependent on Digital Technology.
This awareness goes along with two character-traits of mine, curiosity and a thirst for learning. These three together made me come across User Experience Design. The last two years, the more I learnt about it, the more intrigued I got, and consequently, I began to pursue a position in that field. Therefore, I am faced with a fictional project.
Because of my past in Graphic Design Industry, User Interface Design is my comfort zone. But, by getting familiar with and having more understanding of what User Experience Design is, I grew interested in one other position too, the one of User Experience Researcher. All these years, working as a Graphic Designer I was always looking for the purpose of design. Designing to give answers, not for the shake of decoration. For that, I decided to give it a shot, step out of my box and conduct a Qualitative Research.
By passing through the disciplines of User Experience Research, not only have I tested my knowledge and abilities to these fields, but also, I have gathered valuable information on the latter, User Interface Design. The whole process is like a chain; when you don’t have the right info the right time, it is difficult to continue the right way or even to continue at all. It being so, conducting the User Experience Research gave me a solution to that need, no matter what my former interest on that discipline was.
I understand how demanding this process is, and I dare say that it is impossible for a person on its own to delve into the project and have an accurate outcome, especially if this person has close to none experience, like me. But I decided to go forward with this action for two reasons.
Firstly, not only do I demonstrate my knowledge on User Experience Design, but I also make my way of thinking clear. In this way, I managed to have a better understanding of the process, albeit not done by the book, and surely with faults.
Secondly, all the facets of UX Design are intertwined and interchangeable. By having the understanding of the most of the stages of User Experience Design, you are able to collaborate with your colleagues, no matter which discipline you would have. There is no lone wolf in this game.
